Geek Chic This Week (7/9/12)

Geek Chic This Week is a feature here at Geek Chic to talk about the books I received this week, whether bought, borrowed, or fallen from the sky! It's inspired by the Story Siren's In My Mailbox.

Okay. So. Several things.

First off: I'm a day late with this. I know. I keep failing with blog stuff lately! I will make excuses with the fact that my family is moving soon, so I've been a bit busy. So bear with me!! (I feel like I'm always saying that lately! But thanks, you guys!!)

Secondly: This GCTW is going to cover the past two weeks.

Third: My camera is dead, and I can't take/send photos on my phone right now, so I don't have any pictures of my actual books.

Fourth: I've been trying suuuuuper hard not to get too many books lately, because I have SO MANY other books to read. Plus, I should really stop getting books from the library, because since I'm moving soon (see above), I probably won't have time to read them all...

And finally: TODAY IS MY YOUNGER SISTER'S BIRTHDAY!! Biiiiig birthday shoutout to my SUPER DUPER AWESOME SISTER, LILLYBELL!! You guys, she's a teenager now. LIKE, A TEENAGER. So yeah.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LILLY!

Okay, on to the books!!

FROM THE LIBRARY

-Unleashed by Nancy Holder & Debbie Viguie. Werewolves! Werewolves=cool.

-Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday. SO. FLIPPING. AWESOME!!! I'm absolutely DYING to read the next book. Awesome teen sleuth-age, kinda like the Charmed Life series by Jenny B Jones or Clarity by Kim Harrington. Oh, and a hot guy. YES.

-Dreamland by Sarah Dessen. I've been meaning to read this one for a looong time, but I kinda forgot about it until a friend of mine suggested I read it :)

-Fated by Alyson Noel. I'm kinda reading this one right now, but I'm having trouble getting into it...I don't know if I'll finish...

-Struck by Jennifer Bosworth. Looks cool!!

-The Fine Art of Truth or Dare by Melissa Jensen. I read this one. It was really good :) I really want to read Falling in Love With English Boys, which, I realized AFTER reading this one, kinda came beforehand. Ha.

-Welcome, Caller, This is Chloe. This one seems like fun :)

IN MY MAILBOX

-Before I Wake by Rachel Vincent. !!!!!!!!!!!!! A) Super huuuuuge thanks to Rachel at Fiktshun for this!! And B) It was sooooo GOOD!!! Keep an eye out for a review of it, and one of If I Die, too.

-Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris. Thanks to Nereyda @ Mostly YA Book Obsessed, and to Elizabeth Norris, for this one! Oh, and it's signed!! With a bookmark! SO AWESOME! This is also one of my favorite books :D

So, what's in your mailbox this week?

Teaser Tuesday: Before I Wake by Rachel Vincent

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted over at Should Be Reading. Anyone can play, and the rules are simple:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I GOT BEFORE I WAKE TODAY!! This is thanks to the super fantastical Rachel over at Fiktshun, and her super awesome Soul Screamers Reading Challenge.

Anyway, I'm about a third of the way through already, and there are SO MANY awesome quotes!! It was hard for me to pick ;P

1.
"I can't believe they even bothered filling that faculty position again. They might as well rename the class Defense Against the Dark Arts. I mean, seriously, who would answer an ad for this job?"
-Page 27

2.
"She just got out of the hospital. Why don't you go gossip behind her back, like decent people?"
-Page 31

HAVE I MENTIONED HOW MUCH I FREAKING LOVE EMMA??

And because I am weak (CAUTION--IF I DIE SPOILERS):

3.
"The school sent you flowers. I'm sure that totally makes up for the fact that they hired the psychotic, soul-stealing pedophile who murdered you in your own home."
-Page 100
I shall attempt to use some self-control and stop there. I had a couple awesome lines from a certain awesome reaper, but they're kinda spoilery, so...

What are you reading this week? Leave me your TT links!!

Waiting On Wednesday: Before I Wake by Rachel Vincent

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted over at Breaking the Spine, spotlighting books that have not yet been released but are being greatly anticipated. Today, my pick under the category "Oh my gosh have you seen this because it is going to be utterly incredible" is none other than the sixth book in the AMAZING Soul Screamers series by the fantastic Rachel Vincent: Before I Wake.

But before I continue:

*WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING!*

If you haven't read the fifth Soul Screamers book, If I Die, this synopsis is so ridiculously spoilery it isn't even funny. So proceed with caution, please!

I died on a Thursday—killed by a monster intent on stealing my soul.
The good news? He didn’t get it. The bad news? Turns out not even death will get you out of high school…
Covering up her own murder was one thing, but faking life is much harder than Kaylee Cavanaugh expected. After weeks spent “recovering,” she’s back in school, fighting to stay visible to the human world, struggling to fit in with her friends and planning time alone with her new reaper boyfriend.
But to earn her keep in the human world, Kaylee must reclaim stolen souls, and when her first assignment brings her face-to-face with an old foe, she knows the game has changed. Her immortal status won’t keep her safe. And this time Kaylee isn’t just gambling with her own life…
Do I even need to explain why I'm excited for this book? I'm just so glad the synopsis is finally released so that we have an idea of what's to come for Kaylee. AND TOD! Oh, Tod. Seriously, he's one of the best Book Boyfriends EVER. (:D)

Oh, and for added fun, you can see an awesome post from Rachel Vincent herself talking about the synopsis, and a little of what we can expect in BIW.

Did you read it? Did you? How bout that last little bombshell Rachel dropped?

*Insert Freakout Here*

Oh, and Kaylee and Tod also happen to be my OTP forever :)

Beautiful Covers

So, with the new year, there are a lot of new books coming out. And many of these books have absolutely fantastic covers. But there are three that are really sticking out to me right now. So, in descending order (from least favorite to most favorite) are those three gorgeous covers.

3. Timepiece by Myra McEntire

I really love this. It's totally complementary to Hourglass's cover, yet lovely and striking on its own. I don't even have words to say what I'm feeling about it. I mean, seriously, just look at it.

2. City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

How gorgeous is this?? First off, FINALLY we've got Jace and Clary on the cover together! Secondly, I love this guy portraying Jace. Not only is he really good looking, somehow he just IS Jace. If I concretely pictured Jace (something I usually don't do with book characters) this is what he'd look like. And am I the only one thinking that this girl portraying Clary looks, like, EXACTLY like Amy Adams? Is that just me? Anyway.

1. Before I Wake by Rachel Vincent

This. Cover. Rocks. It's so pretty! And flow-y. And...I don't even know. And I kind of like that Kaylee's alone on this one. As in: I'm really glad that Nash finally got kicked off the covers. 'Cuz I kinda-semi hate him. Though, admittedly, I wouldn't mind seeing a certain blond reaper on the cover with Kaylee. Just sayin'...;)

Anyway, those are my favorite covers right now. And, honestly, I CAN'T WAIT to read the books, too!
