In My Mailbox (4/16/12)

In My Mailbox is a weekly event hosted by The Story Siren, and it's all about talking about what you got in your mailbox each week!

I'm a day later than usual on this, but I did get more books today so I'll just include them, too. Anyway, here we go!

FROM THE LIBRARY

-My Soul to Keep by Rachel Vincent. For the Soul Screamers Reading Challenge! Yays. I already reread it (I'd only just finished it when the proper Challenge month ended!), and you can see my review if you like!

-Embrace by Jessica Shirvington. I'd heard about this one, so I decided to give it a try! I've also already read this one, and I enjoyed it!

-SHADE by Jeri Smith-Ready. This is another reread, as I'm gearing up for SHINE's release!!!!

-Frostbite by Rachelle Mead. Vampire Academy was the first vamp book I read in a while to make me want to read the sequel, so...there it is :)

The books in this picture I just got literally twenty minutes ago lol, at my second library trip this week :)

-SHIFT by Jeri Smith-Ready. I really did mean to wait until a bit closer to SHINE's release to reread this one (I have SO MUCH to read rereads should be lower on my list, but...) but after rereading SHADE I just couldn't reist!

-Deadly Little Voices by Laurie Faria Stolarz. I've been DYING to read this one for FOREVER! It was checked out by various people for quite a while, but finally it's my turn to read it!!

-BZRK by Michael Grant. I'd heard about this one a while ago, but I just found it sitting on the "new" shelf at the library today! I'd gone in intending only to get SHIFT and Deadly Little Voices, but I just couldn't resist when I saw this!

-Black Heart by Holly Black. Another one I didn't mean to get, but couldn't NOT get once I saw it sitting there! I'm so excited to read this one!!!

ON MY KINDLE

-Untouched by Jus Accardo. Yay! I read this one and LOOOOVED it! There will be a review of it coming!

-The Book of Lost Souls by Michelle Muto. Looks awesome!!

-Eternal Eden by Nicole Williams. I've heard interesting things about this one! Looking forward to starting it!

-The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines. I loved Existence by Abbi Glines, and lots of people seemed to like this one, too! I read it already and will admit it wasn't my favorite, but of course every book isn't for everyone!

IN MY ACTUAL MAILBOX

-Enthralled: Paranormal Diversions. I won this in an awesome #SHADEboys twitter chat, and I was so excited to get it!! And to make it even awesomer...

It's signed by Jeri Smith-Ready, and Logan even signed his story, Bridge :)

Plus, Jeri also included some super-cool swag!

How awesome is that?

So, what's in your mailbox this week?

Teaser Tuesday: Deadly Little Lies by Laurie Faria Stolarz

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted over at Should Be Reading. Anyone can play, and the rules are simple:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Happy Valentine's Day, everybody! Now, I know that literally last week I shared from the first book in this series, but I just started the second today and it's SO GOOD. So yeah.

1.
"Camelia," he whispered. His voice sounded just like I'd remembered--soft, smooth, deep, able to steal my breath and make my heart pound.

2.
The image of Ben's scar popped into my head. And so I started sculpting it--feeding this weird, insatiable need inside me to form his arm, from his fingertips to just past his elbow.
-Page 2
This book...I'm freaking out. No, not because of creepy stalkers and pyschometry. Because of BEN. I'm gonna strangle that kid. Just saying. READ THIS BOOK. But read Deadly Little Secrets first. It's kinda important. ;)

Review: Deadly Little Secret by Laurie Faria Stolarz

If you're a regular reader, you've probably seen the other various times I've talked about Deadly Little Secret recently. For example, I talked about it on my last Teaser Tuesday. Well, now I'm ready to go in depth and talk about it. :)

Deadly Little Secret by Laurie Faria Stolarz

Until three months ago, everything about sixteen-year-old Camelia's life had been fairly ordinary: decent grades; an okay relationship with her parents; and a pretty cool part-time job at an art studio downtown. But when Ben, the mysterious new guy, starts junior year at her high school, Camelia's life becomes far from ordinary.

Rumored to be somehow responsible for his ex-girlfriend's accidental death, Ben is immediately ostracized by everyone on campus. Except for Camelia. She's reluctant to believe he's trouble, even when her friends try to convince her otherwise. Instead she's inexplicably drawn to Ben...and to his touch. But soon, Camelia is receiving eerie phone calls and strange packages with threatening notes. Ben insists she is in danger, and that he can help – but can he be trusted? She knows he's hiding something..  .but he's not the only one with a secret.

"A boy to admire from afar, a girl you want to befriend, a novel to
keep you turning the pages because you won't know who to trust. Laurie Faria Stolarz's DEADLY LITTLE SECRET is a blend of mystery, chills, and forbidden touches--one captivating story you have to experience." - Kelly Parra, author of INVISIBLE TOUCH

------

I wasn't exactly sure what I was getting into when I started this book. The synopsis is pretty cryptic, but it sounded cool, so I figured I'd give it a shot. And I was very happy, because this book rocks. I was drawn in from the first chapter, which also rocked.

I was instantly intrigued by the mysterious, scrawled chapters that appear every so often. The first couple made me curious, but not too worried. But as they went on, they got creepier and creepier until I was seriously freaked out. I really loved that bonus aspect, instead of just an entire book from Camelia's POV.

Speaking of Camelia, I found her to be an interesting heroine. Even though she was smart and strong and brave, she wasn't insanely so, like some recent heroines who were either supernatural beings themselves, or just really awesome/fantastical humans. She was awesome, but realistically so. It's a refreshing change.

Ben was great, too, though RIDICULOUSLY frustrating. I wanted to smack him at some points, just because he was so secretive and kept holding back. Still, I began to fall for him anyway, and hope to fall for him even more in future books.

The climax was awesome, I will say. I didn't see it coming and it was terrifying and heart-pounding. The ending crushed my soul, though. I won't say why, but I just hope that my heart is repaired in the sequel.

Altogether, I give this book <*><*><*><*>

For this week's TT, I'll be sharing from one of my new favorite books, Deadly Little Secret by Laurie Faria Stolarz. And yes, I'll have a review of that posted soon.

1.

"So, I suppose you've heard some stuff about me," he continues.
     "A little."
     "Care to elaborate?"

     -Page 76

2.

"So, shall we start over? he asks.
"I guess," I say, still utterly confused.
"Hi, my name's Ben Carter." He smiles, fully aware of how cheesy this is.

Geez, reading this post you'd think Ben starts every sentence with "So," He doesn't, by the way. Just so you know. Anyway.
