In My Mailbox (4/29/12)

In My Mailbox is a weekly event hosted by The Story Siren, and it's all about talking about what you got in your mailbox each week!

I know there's been a lot of drama out there surrounding the Story Siren, and some people have decided not to participate in In My Mailbox because of it. But while I understand where these people are coming from, at this time I'm not going to stop participating in IMM.

I think we can all agree that plagiarism is always wrong and never okay. Beyond that, I don't want to voice any opinion on the subject, except to say that I hope people will stop drawing lines in the theoretical sand and allowing this to divide us.

I like the In My Mailbox meme, and I enjoy talking to you guys about the books we all get each week. For that reason and that reason alone I'm going to continue with the meme. I'm okay with you if you keep using it. I'm okay with you if you don't. I want to talk to you about books either way :)

Now, to get on with what's in my mailbox:

FROM THE LIBRARY
I got a good number of books from the library this week, but since I've already returned some and did a failtastic job of keeping record this week, I'll share the ones I can remember.

-Heavenly by Jennifer Laurens. This one is about a girl whose sister has autism, which was interesting to me as several of my friends' siblings and one of my cousins have autism. I don't know if you can see it in the picture, but the on the cover, you can see the face of a guardian angel in the clouds, something which I (in a failure akin to the Across the Universe and Black Heart fails) didn't notice until halfway through the book.

-Torn by Amanda Hocking. I enjoyed the first book in the series, so I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next!!

-Hallowed by Cynthia Hand. !!! I've been wanting to read this for a very long time (since the instant I finished Unearthly), but I'm also terrified about it because I'm afraid something's going to happen to my beloved Tucker D:

-Grave Mercy. Sounds cool! I wasn't intending to get it this week, but I saw it at the library and just picked it up ;)

And I can think of a couple more that I already returned, so no pictures of them.

-Perception by Kim Harrington. Another case of the !!!s. THIS BOOK. I already read it, and my review is HERE!

-Wings of the Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton. EEEK this book this book this book. Yeah, I loved it, but it also killed me a little bit. Review is coming!!

-Deadly Little Voices by Laurie Faria Stolarz. I loooooved this book as well! I'm dying for the next book!!!

ON MY KINDLE

I received two books on my Kindle for review!

-Darwin's Children by Natasha Larry

-Unnatural Law by Natasha Larry

Big thank you to Natasha Larry for providing these books for review! I'm looking forward to reading them :)

IN MY ACTUAL MAILBOX

I didn't think I'd have anything in my actual mailbox to share, but just before I sat down to write this I was handed an envelope that made me very excited. Evidently no one checked the mail yesterday, which meant that today was the day I got--

-A ZOGAN trading card from Kilt and Keeley! (You can get one, too! Just enter the SHINE preorder giveaway HERE!)

Seriously, though, I absolutely love this thing. Thank you guys!!!

So, what's in your mailbox this week? Leave me your links! (Be they for IMM or your own variation ;D)

  3. Ohhh! Grave Mercy! I'm dying to read that one! I'll definitely be looking out for your review.

As far as the crazyness my friend, I will most likely be switching over to a new meme where I can still share my books. After everything I have done to promote ethics in the blogosphere and my rant on the plagiarism of 50 Shades, I don't feel I can rightly continue to support The Story Siren. Success earned through plagiarism and at the expense of other hard working bloggers is not ok. However, I do support other bloggers' decisions to continue using it. This is a personal choice for me. You have every right to continue on doing IMM if you want to, it is truly a great meme! I say this is really something that each blogger needs to decide what is best for them personally. I in no way feel that everyone should have to stop.

Have a great week! Don't hesitate to stop by and share your IMM on Sundays through the BBB meme I'm signing up for from now on. Like you said, I don't think this should divide us.

    1. I very much agree with you--it's a person choice. I thought about it for a while, and I decided to keep with IMM for now. In the future I might change to a different meme or a feature of my own, but for the time being this is what I've decided to do.

You have a great week, too, and I'll be sure to stop by! :D

  6. Yay! for library hauls! And your library looks like a good one! Clarity is on it's way to me as we speak, I've been wanting to read it for-evah! And hey, I like your awesome words of wisdom regarding the "big controversy" It's all about the books, people, or at least it should be. Well said Mag:)

    1. My library is pretty good! They recently bought up a bunch of new books, so I'm working my way through them!

  7. I'm totally with you on IMM. In no way do I condone plagiarism, but I just don't want to get involved. I don't know the entire story, I don't want to get tangled up in the drama and I like this meme. I'm comfortable with it and don't want to change =\ I rarely ever use the linky on the main post anyway, so *shrugs* I completely respect other people's opinion to change, though. Anywho!

OMG BOOOOOOOOKS! :D Grave Mercy!! I am DYING to get my hands on that, it sounds so freaking badass. And awesome. And Brodie wants it badly. I think it's being released here in Australia soon, yay! I have Torn and Ascend, which I really hope to squeeze in soon. I want to meet this Loki guy everyone talks about! AND AHHHH. HALLOWED. I got this a couple of weeks ago and am desperate to read it (*cries* why are you so big, TBR??). I love me some Tucker :D

    ENJOY YOUR READS!

    1. Right, as I said, I'm fine with whatever meme people want to use!

I just finished Torn like...yesterday, I think it was? So now I really want to read Ascend. THE PROBLEM IS, the only copy my library has is marked as "Lost: Long Overdue" and because of that it won't let me put a hold on it :( So yeah.

*cries with you* it's toooooo biiiiiiiiig! But obviously I can't bring myself to take any books off :)

      Yay, TUUUUUUUCKEEEEEEER!!!! <3 <3 <3 I love him!!
